Tying the knot in London

Tips on excellent venues and reception spots in London with Millennium Hotels – your first choice for a hotel, London wide

Your wedding day is one of the most exciting of your life – a big performance, a party and a life-long promise that will change your entire future. And choosing to get married in the UK’s biggest, busiest and most exciting city can only add to the sense of occasion and celebration.

For those of you interested in weddings in London, we’ve taken an overview of the options open to you, and looked at some of the venues London based weddings often move to for receptions and housing guests.

Getting married in London: the obstacles

As the UK’s capital city, it is worth noting that London can be expensive – and busy. Trying to book a ceremony in one of the city’s churches is a very long-term project, and can often be difficult if you don’t live in London.

London is also large – so moving between venues, hotels and restaurants requires coordination, especially when you’re dealing with families and guest unfamiliar with the city. Our tip is to try to keep things close together: encourage guests towards the same hotel – and make friends with a taxi service so you can arrange easy transport between venues.

Town Halls/Civil Ceremonies

London has numerous beautiful town halls and venues which offer civil ceremonies and these have fast become the most popular way to get married in the capital. Camden Town Hall, with its stunning wide marble staircase, is an excellent choice, just off the Euston Road.

Better located for a quick skip to Millennium Hotels’ venues in Kensington of Knightsbridge is Marylebone Town Hall, at the other end of the same road. Easily reachable on the Bakerloo line, or a quick taxi ride from the Mayfair/Kensington area, it could be right choice for you.

A hotel is the best spot for a wedding reception in London, allowing the kind of privacy and cosiness that a bar or restaurant does not. It’s advised to look for a hotel that is happy to hold a wedding reception as well – this again must be booked well in advance as central London is so popular – but hire of the venue can often come at a better price if you’re also promising many guests will be staying there.
